The journey of independent journalism in India's 'Far East'
Welcome to The 'Far' East Movement by me, Makepeace Sitlhou, a freelance journalist covering India's Northeastern states.
In this newsletter, expect sweet and salty (yes, I will rant) notes of my experiences writing and reporting stories from a region, which India feels constantly guilty about neglecting, mistreating and misunderstanding.
I will link to stories by others (and sometimes by me) that struck me as odd, beautiful, powerful or plain bullshit.
If you’re looking at this as a round up of news stories from the Northeast, then you’ve come to the wrong place. As of now, I’m doing this for my own sanity and no one’s paying me for it. Should I invest journalistically in this platform and start looking to monetise this, you’ll be the first to know.
Meanwhile, you can out The Wire and The Print, which do a fairly good job of it.
